Governors Ball 2025 Brings Summer Magic Back to New York
Over the weekend of June 6–8, Governor’s Ball returned to Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens, New York, bringing with it a mix of well-curated musical acts. This year’s lineup was stacked with names like Tyler, the Creator, Olivia Rodrigo, Hozier, Feid, Benson Boone, and Glass Animals, to name a few. Known for its multi-genre lineup and held every summer, Gov Ball once again proved why it remains one of the country’s most beloved music festivals.
The weekend began under the perfect summer backdrop—blue skies, shiny sun, and fans ready to dive into the music. Jean Dawson kicked the day with a raw, energetic rock set. Matt Champion, formerly of Brockhampton, showcased his evolution as a solo artist with tracks from his late 2024 album, captivating old and new fans alike. Tyla brought a powerful South African presence to the stage, while Role Model attracted the most passionate fans of the day, some of whom camped out early all day just to get a front-row view. Mk.gee left the crowd mesmerized with his guitar skills, and Benson Boone wowed with dynamic vocals and his signature backflips.
Day 1 closed with Tyler, the Creator, bringing his Chromakopia tour back to the U.S. fresh off a European leg. Despite sharing that he was exhausted, he lit up the stage with a blend of newer stuff and fan favorites, explaining that his respect for Governor’s Ball and its legacy is what brought him back to perform.
Saturday hit a rough patch due to dangerous weather alerts. Gates didn’t open until 4:30 PM, resulting in the cancellation of early sets by Lexa Gates, Die Spitz, and many more, which disappointed many fans who had arrived early. The unexpected five-hour delay cast a cloud—literally and figuratively—over the festival. Despite the setbacks, the show went on. Artists like Artemas, Marina, and Orion Sun performed on schedule and kept spirits high. Wallows took to the main stage and mid way through their performance in began to pour rain creating a special moment.
As the skies finally cleared, Conan Gray lifted everyone’s mood with a heartfelt set.. The evening picked up serious momentum when Colombian reggaeton star Feid hit the stage. With high energy, amazing pyrotechnics, and strong support from New York’s Latino community, Feid delivered one of the most electric performances of the weekend. Olivia Rodrigo closed out Day 2 with a powerful headlining set that made up for the earlier chaos. She even brought out David Byrne for a surprise performance of “Burning Down the House,” bridging generations and giving the dads in the crowd something to cheer about too who were probably there supporting their daughters who wanted to see Olivia Rodrigo.Showing that her demographic can reach anyone of all ages.
Sunday brought cooler, calmer energy—both in weather and vibe. The Japanese House, Clairo, and Montell Fish delivered mellow, soulful indie alternative sets that perfectly matched the overcast skies. The indie-heavy lineup gave festivalgoers a chance to unwind after two intense days. Hozier closed out the festival on a thoughtful and powerful note.
He used his platform to speak out against imperialism and call for a ceasefire in Gaza—a rare moment of advocacy on a major festival stage, and one that resonated with many in the audience. (via Billboard) Governor’s Ball 2025 had its highs and lows, but in the end, the beauty of live music, community, and culture overcame the lows. This year's edition was another unforgettable festival and can’t wait to see what Gov Ball has in store for 2026.
